Since before 2020, I've been running SM 2.49.5 and FF ESR 52.9 in a
WinXP/Win7x32/Win7x64) multi-boot system, using the same XUL extensions
and basic profile files, and copying 'places', cookies, logins, etc.
from one to the other SM to FF) to keep them all in sync, with the SM &
FF Profiles in special root directories in W7, used by both OS's, and it
   had been working fine.

Frank (frg) also warned me of possible problems, but there have been
none, even after I added the W7x64, so it seems that the internal
adjustments (by SM/FF & Win) are able to automatically make any needed
adjustments when using the Profiles in different OS's. I don't use
Linux (yet?), but I suspect that, in that case, the differences might
create problems, since there is no 'overseer' over Win & Linux...

Of course, if I ever decide to upgrade SM to 2.53 and/or FF to the
latest versions, they would be inherently incompatible, and this setup
would no longer work; but, since my main interest here is SM for
mail/news, and SM 2.49 and FF 52 as 'alternate browsers' (to MS Edge,
which is locked to v.104 due to W7, but handles most sites which the old
SM/FF cannot), that isn't on the near horizon.
