   That reddit comment is about TB 128. SeaMonkey and Thunderbird did share   
   the same code up to about Thunderbird 60ESR, after which SM stayed at   
   that level, with backports I assume while development on Thunderbird   
   continued in a separate direction. At this point it is hard to say how   
   much of mail/news is shared but as that bug appeared with Thunderbird   
   128, it is very likely unrelated.   
   Personally, it seems I've seen similar and here it was triggered by a   
   crash. Can't remember whether it was SM or TB that had the behaviour and   
   it was a while back.
