   I have used a couple of web based OCR services (not Google's   
   though their backend may be Google) and the accuracy is   
   impressive.   
      
   I also downloaded and tried the PDF-Xchange editor. It uses   
   tesseract as its backend. I decided to keep a copy for this reason.   
      
   Though not as accurate as web based OCR, it was good enough considering   
   it works offline. As for the Xchange editor's other options the "free"   
   version is crippleware.
