You will still find areas where Windows apps are more polished, powerful
etc etc. That's why I moved my whole Win7 install and a separate Win10
install into VBox VMs on my Linux boxen. I still use four Windows apps
on a daily basis (eg my old trusty Agent used to post this) and a few
   others every now and then.

I see two obvious ways to get on the Linux bandwagon without killing
your Windows install: install a user-friendly distro as dual-boot and
switch between both OSs on boot. Or install VBox on your Windows install
and install a user-friendly distro in a VM, play with that until you're
comfortable with it and then dual-boot or even remove Windows (with
possibly moving your Win install into a VM as I did... it's pretty
   straightforward).

As to what distro... I've switched 7 years ago to then Linux MX v18 and
am now on MX23 with planning to update to MX25 one of these days. I
tested various other distros but none had the combination of power and
ease of use that MX had.

MX has some unique features, the most important ones its collection of
MX utilities and the ability to run a full install off an existing
Windows installation (meaning you don't need repartition and reformat
your drive... that's what I did all those years ago). It also has a very
   lively and helpful forum.
