That's odd.
I use Thunderbird with (as far as I recall) its default wrap settings.
Those are presently:
mail.wrap_long_lines true
mailnews.wraplength 72
plain_text.wrap_long_lines true
temp.openpgp.wrapHtmlBeforeSend true
view_source.wrap_long_lines false
FWIW TB has no problem wrapping posts to fit whatever window size I use
for viewing so I prefer posts which are *not" using fixed line width,
not least re broken URLs.
