   And a whole bunch of smaller ones, including one that I watched burn   
   about 40 years ago. I think the cause was a heat tape they were using to   
   keep the pipes from freezing. The place really went up.   
      
   Less than a quarter of a mile away from this spot, it was about 50 feet   
   from the edge of the backyard of our old house. In 1993, a lot of the   
   debris was still there. The company that owned the property finally   
   cleaned it up a couple of years ago, after the EPA got after them.
