   Unless aliens show up and want to be known, we will never know if they   
   have been here or not ... if they are just a mere 1,000 years ahead of   
   us in space travel and technology this is true.  I would suspect they   
   will be more like 10,000 years, or 100,000 years and even a million   
   years is quite possible.   
      
   Since they will have faster than light travel as well as time travel,   
   even if we found them out, they could simply drop back in time and erase   
   the evidence ...
