   Answer:

The 3 snipers, JD, Sturgis, and Roscoe, in that order, each fired a suppressed
shot at JFK. Only Roscoe's shot hit JFK (neck/back transiting bullet). Cain
fired his first unsuppressed acoustic distraction shot from the infamous 6th
   floor window.

The first gunfire sounds the witnesses heard were the 3 supersonic cracks of
the suppressed shots in flight, resulting in so many indicating they heard
   "firecrackers" (plural).

After the first 3 suppressed shots and Cain's first unsuppressed acoustic
distraction shot Cain fired an unsuppressed acoustic distraction shot after
each suppressed shot by the snipers, as follows.

Sturgis fired his second shot (miss). Cain fired his second unsuppressed
acoustic distraction shot. Perhaps Sturgis missed both shots because of the
case of Pearl beer he got the night before.

Roscoe fired his second shot (entered JFK's right temple, exited the rear
right of his head). Cain fired his third unsuppressed acoustic distraction
   shot.

8 shots total fired in Dealey Plaza.

Cain's distraction shots were an attempt to hide the source of the suppressed
shots fired by the 3 snipers and to try to make it sound as if all shots
originated from the infamous 6th floor window. Suppressed shots have a crack
   while unsuppressed shots
have a crack and a bang. The crack is the sound of the supersonic bullet in
flight in excess of the sound barrier. The bang is the muzzle blast sound
from unsuppressed rifles. The crack is generally the first sound heard by
   witnesses of unsuppressed
   gunfire.

   All 3 snipers and Cain were using 7.65mm Mauser rifles. 7+6+5 = 18 = 6+6+6

   Per Nagell, a veritable genius:
"Zip! Zip! Zip! Bang! Zip! Bang" Zip! Bang!"
Zips being suppressed shots, bangs being unsuppressed shots, per me.
