   Effective Spam filtering has been around for a long time, so forum spam   
   shouldn't be hard to remove in the background.    
      
   I'm more inclined to believe that Google can't monetize Usenet enough to want   
   to support it. They may intend to do away with groups altogether in the end,   
   and ditching nntp is just the first step.
