   I remember the "Deutsche National Zeitung" showing a photo   
   with Pope X the 23thrd (?) watching the 4 million number on a   
   marmor stone, and shortly afterwards the numbers were   
   corrected downwards, the paper claimed, as far as I remember.   
      
   You may want to post that question into "de.sci.geschichte"   
   perhaps they know the date when that correction was made.
