   Interesting info. Frost comes from water vapour, though, not from   
   precipitation (with the exception of virga, which is precipitation that   
   has turned into water vapour, but that only makes a small contribution).   
      
   I'm not sure what might have caused a big fall in the level of water   
   vapour in the atmosphere. Usually much of it comes from evaporation from   
   the sea, and from biological processes. Have you noticed less dew too?   
      
   Is it possible that part of the reason it felt so bitterly cold was the   
   wind chill effect rather than the temperature?
