One of the most asinine comments I have heard for a long time.

   >> It strikes me that the coming weeks might be a very useful time for the

   >Rubbish. I've seen a good many Asians flying the flag.

That doesn't mean it wouldn't be a useful time. Some Jews supported
   Hitler.

Anyway you'd have had to be asleep not to notice that there's been an
effort to build up some shitty role-model of a 'west-supporting liberal
Muslim' these past few years. (In the UK, I mean; probably not in the
   US).

   >We've tried the
   >self-hatred and post-colonial guilt and it gets us home-grown
   >suicide-bombers.

Your concept of 'we' needs junking. Ditto self-hatred and post-colonial
guilt. Indeed, ditto 'home-grown suicide bombers' too. Any sane person
would suspect that that alleged Mohammad Sidique Khan video was a fake.
That Peter Power interview, however, definitely wasn't.

   >So so what if it is a response to the events of 7/7,
   >living in a multi-cultural part of London

   What part of London isn't?

   >I can tell you now that there
   >is something very comforting about it, that we are all able to feel
   >together whatever community we belong to.

Like Big Brother putting his arm around you?

Nationalism is precisely about 'all feeling together for the Nation,
regardless of our individual backgrounds'. A nation is a BRAND. Do you
feel all warm inside when you watch Coca-Cola advertisements?

BTW the notion that everyone in the UK 'belongs' to an ethnic
'community' has been given a fair amount of PR spend for the past year
or so. As has the idea that there is a 'white working class', all of
   whose members are knuckle-dragging racists.
