I am aware of an academic whose specialism
is an expert in research and determination of
problems, flaws and damage to structural concrete.
He was in Paris at the time of the deaths and
for his own personal and professional interest he
inspected the damage to the pillars in the Parisian
underpass. In his expert opinion ,just the significant
damage only, was in-consistent with impact from a
Mercedes but is consistent with multiple
   blows from a sledge-hammer.
An inference being, someone on the night,
decided there had to be evidence of a higher
speed collision. Or, of course, someone else
   like himself, walking into
the underpass and bashing off some souvenirs -
you takes your pick or sledge.
