That's odd. In an earlier post I pointed out two pictures of the rear of the
car appearing in the The Times with names of the guys in each picture.
The Sun of 3/10 had the same sort of format. Names of the guys standing
around in the tunnel. What are they seen doing one could ask. Well, they are
just standing around. Not an ambulance is in sight.

Anyway, one of the pics shows the pillar with a large piece of oily wreckage
[could be anything though] lying across the raised island and the end
dropping over the side of the kerb into the other lane [the tunnel in the
opposite direction. This thing is to the right of the pillar [nearest the
camera] and the pic is taken from this opposite lane. The Merc is in the
other lane [further from the camera] on the other side of the pillars. So
the cameraman chose to take this pic from behind it - not the side that was
   hit.

The second pic is taken in the side of the tunnel with the car in it and
shows the side of the pillar that was hit. This thing can be seen with the
end dropping over the side of the kerb into this lane. It is now on the left
of the pillar, as it should be but the end is dropping over the side of the
kerb into this lane. The paint is seen damaged or missing from both sides of
this pillar. {Are all pillars like this around their base facing the
   traffic?].

If this is confusing then read on - for a car to have been traveling at
60-65 mph to have bounced off a pillar and done a 180 degree turn you would
expect to be further away from the pillar. This car isn't - it is almost
   adjacent to it.

Anyway, I guess we have all seen the size of the gap between the pillars in
the newspaper pictures or you might even have been in the tunnel. Very wide
   wouldn't you say.
