This is pretty standard mysticism stuff. It has been around since
before recorded history. The biggest fear should be the loss of his
money to learn something that you could have learned for cost of a
book and practice. But it appears that it is helping your brother
open up to new levels of consciousness and so it maybe well worth the
   $150 or so.

I suggest that you stop fearing it and give it a try yourself.
Besides, meditation has been shown to have great many more practical
benefits as well. It's great for relaxation and can thereby improve
   your health.
