     It may not be a physical thing at all. Read in the OT about "The Mark of   
   YHWH" which was given to those who upheld the Torah. Perhaps this "mark of   
   the beast" is just the opposite - a mark on those who worship the beast and   
   it's anti-Torah religion. Just thinking outside the box a little.
