XPost: comp.sys.cbm       From: kingdurin@yahoo.com              But I want a C= 2003 GSX with the DVD+/-RW that has it's own Athlon 64       processor. And of course it also doubles as an HDTV tuner because HDTV sets       are the target audience. And I read last week that it's STILL eating XBox       for lunch no matter how much money Bill throws at it. I bet he sure wishes       he never "gave" CBM their BASIC because 90% of the business apps are written       in Visual CBM-Basic, 64-bit edition (have been, ever since C= moved to the       MOS 65X6402 processor back in 98).              Of course, the cool thing is that when you replace your antique 1541       motherboard with the new C= 154X motherboard (even if it only uses a 333mhz       65x3210 processor) you get to use Super Burst 2k mode which loads the entire       disk into memory when you insert it and can load Mail Order Monsters in like       .04 seconds. It's also cool how C= added USB 2 support to the 154X       motherboards, but it's a pain to cut the hole in the back of the drive case.       I'm glad Maurice started selling 154X case upgrades that include the 154X       motherboard, case and use a floor-brick power supply for $99. I heard the       158X boards are killer too, but after the 1588 debacle I don't think they're       going to try to put 1 gigabyte of data on a 3.5" DD floppy again.              Of course, I'm sure they could drop native 64 support so they can clean up       all of the 8-bit legacy microcode in the processors and get rid of that       stupid 1mhz clock for the 64 compatibility mode. Today's emulators are       faster anyways! I heard the only reason it's still around is that Tramiel       likes some of the old NTSC demos that won't run correctly in the emulators.       As long as it play's M.U.L.E. it's alright with me!              I willl say, though, that VIC IX is pretty cool. It looks great on my 42"       plasma. I didn't know 64 bit color would make such a difference, but there       it is! Too bad it's only a 256 bit GPU because they're continuing to let       ATI and nVidia sniff around the super-low end of the market. I just hope       the rumors that they are still trying to sell a PC with the VIC IX aren't       true. Don't they know that Hyptransport may be good for disk drives, it       just cannot fill the memory demands of the VIC IX???              I also heard that CBM finally won their patent suit against Creative and       that they'll be buying out Creative soon. I just hope that judge in       California has enough sense not to try to break up the company like they       tried to when CBM bought Atari, Apple and Texas Instruments in 3 months back       in 95.              "Sam Gillett" |
