   Let's not forget that we, too, are animals as well as (if you believe   
   in them) souls.  Most of us, at least, believe in animals -- although   
   many refuse to accept the fact that the human body is itself an animal,   
   with or without a "higher" spirit inhabiting it.  Even our language is   
   built to exclude this knowledge whenever possible, as in the   
   juxtaposition of the terms "human being" and "animal", because we are   
   so anxious to exclude this part of our structure from our deliberations   
   about our so-wonderful selves.
