I got caught in an accident on a motorbike once, should have been
decapitated by the truck tray, but miraculously, I avoided it (felt the
wind as my neck passed it). But I was an agnostic then (and now). Who
   should I praise?

I got caught in a rip when I was a kid. A man came and got me. All
praise the lifesaving club! At 5 I was an unbeliever, too.

My brother grabbed hold of wires he had stuck into a power point (and
*we* have 220v mains). I screamed for my mum and she saved his life. I
didn't try to take it off him myself, or I'd have been electrocuted too.
Praise... errr.. common sense? The people who routinely told us not to
touch electrical power sources? I was an unbeliever at 8 too.

Everything you describe happened in a similar fashion to me. I do not
believe in God. So, am I protected by ignorant angels because I'm an
   agnostic?

The fact is, Davey, if someone survives to tell the tale, then they can
thank any higher power they like. But those who do not are not around to
point out that this same higher power failed to protect *them* despite
   their faith.

Yep. Dumb luck. Happens all the time someone survives a nasty accident.

I believe one of the greek writers noted that there are no shrines to
those gods who failed to save the drowned sailors...
