   Since its part of what is being argued here, there aren't 'millions' of   
   missing persons.  There are millions of dead bodies that are being 'missed'   
   and their souls know exactly where their 'being-ness' is (not here), and a   
   few 100,000 missing (still living) persons, worldwide.  This is an important   
   fact to a later point.  Among the 'missing dead' I'd guesstimate that very   
   few are of sufficient emotional/spiritual energy to effect a desired   
   transition between 'here' and 'there' for the purpose of communicating with   
   loved ones.   
      
   Creating a psychic connection to the living is difficult enough for psychics   
   of any useful degree.  To create a psychic connection to persons no longer   
   on the physical plane is more difficult.  The creation of any ongoing   
   psychic connection in which useful (i.e. - physical world applicable data)   
   information is gained is extremely difficult in the best of circumstances.   
      
   The attachment between two minds, one of which has passed on, presents   
   unique difficulties in understanding and communications.  Different   
   cultures, personalities, perceptions, experiences, times (not just   
   calendar/clock time but subjective time rates too), all of these abide to   
   interfere with psychic communication.   
      
   When those that die, die, they lose their connection to their body.  Thus so   
   many bodies that are unfound because there is no link to them anymore.  And,   
   those that pass on, pass into a different place where they try to   
   learn/remember how to get around; ongoing human physical interactions have   
   suddenly become incredibly less important and necessary.  For example, when   
   we use the capacity of speech, a huge amount of energy transferred   
   "in-system" which doesn't happen on the other side.   
      
   Our will/awareness (soul) which is attached to our body wants to say "Hi" to   
   another soul.  The will moves the energy and the awareness directs it.  The   
   energy transfers from brain cells and breath to muscles and timing.  The   
   mouth begins to open, the breath pushes out, the vocal cords engage, and the   
   vibration passes into the world, into the air for anyone to hear; the   
   intended soul may or may not get the message because their "meat" is   
   involved.  The vibration in the air acts against the passive ear drums,   
   which vibrate that energy into impulses which eventually make it to the   
   brain.   
      
   A filter there clicks in and may/may not allow the message to pass to the   
   awareness; if you are already known to the soul behind the brain, the   
   vibration of that energy will be the key and slip past the filter.  The   
   awareness recognizes the voice pattern, its timbre and pitch and timing, as   
   well as the overall environment in which it hears it and additionally the   
   context in which it is accepted WHICH IS AN INCREDIBLY HUGE AMOUNT OF   
   PROCESSING ENERGY.   
      
   When you pass to the other side, the will and awareness possess   
   instantaneous perfect mind-to-mind communication, no meat involved.  So it   
   becomes a huge hassle to continue to deal with the meat world.   
      
   Granted there are some dispossesed souls that can refuse to pass, who   
   'hang-out' for whatever reason, trying to connect to the meat-world, to gain   
   justice, vengeance, parity/fairness, whatever.  Generally, these souls are   
   misunderstanding their current place in their ongoing spiritual evolution   
   (usually because of religious upbringing - but that is another argument for   
   another time).   
      
   These are the very few lost souls (I'd guess only about a couple hundred   
   around the entire planet at any given moment) that true psychics tend to   
   'pick up'.  And, true psychics tend to be older souls, more concerned with   
   aiding the lost soul to find their place in their current environment, not   
   to help them with the meat world unless that is absolutely necessary to the   
   ongoing well-being of other still-enfleshed souls. (John Edwards, case in   
   point)   
      
   The movies/television aside, the world of the 'dead' does not continually   
   attempt to encroach upon the world of the living.  On the other side, THE   
   MEAT WORLD IS CONSIDERED EXTREEEEEEMMMMEEELLLY  BORING.  But its the only   
   place where we can act upon and test our ongoing evolution. Evolution here   
   is evolution there.
