XPost: alt.paranormal.reincarnation       From: rgrentcom@kcnet.com              What we call "science" today a thousand years from now (if our species still       exists) may well be called a religion.              However, what we call the "scientific method" will probably still be in       existance. The biggest fallacy of this paradigm of fact proofing is to       attain to an experimental basis of investigative non-involvement       (objectivity in its purest form). As such it is flawed; quantum physics       proves that subjective expectations on the part of the observer affects the       outcome of an experiment. That which we expect affects what becomes 'real'       for us.              However, I must take issue that we ARE better off, in fact considerably       better off in many ways, than at most any other time in history. (I am not       saying that its a good thing to be better off). Even animal life (in many       instances) is better off.              Better off isn't necessarily a good thing, since its whole concept is of the       short-term, the accumulation of 'lucky' instances. Even species wide       'better off' is relatively short term in the sense of evolutionary mutation.              Humans once encouraged the concept and reality of mutually assured       destruction and nuclear war. While we haven't laid that bugaboo to rest       permanently, great strides have been taken to make sure all of the planet       won't die.              We have figured out that to take care of our species on a long-term basis we       have to take care to maintain our environments and the animals that inhabit       them. We have figured this out slowly, maybe too late, but some other       option may appear to save us, by accident or by our design. We are nothing       if not adaptable, look at our evolution. I'll be really impressed if we can       stick around longer than the dinosaurs.              Human kind is an ongoing mutation of body, mind, and soul. Physically, our       evolution is pretty slow, as it is reactionary to the environments of the       earth. Mentally, and I am speaking strictly from a view of mental as an       accumulation of knowledge and its application, we have passed several       watersheds of evolution just within the past 500 years. (Search Science of       Memetics)              Spiritual evolution is based upon a combination of these. So much of what       is experienced physically and mentally crowds out the spiritual. From an       evolution which supports death as an end, any species can become crowded       into extinction. But from an evolution which supports ongoing life, there       must be an unforeseen element, a larger perspective and environment of which       the spirit is aware, because of its continuing existence.              That at least is my belief.              Rog              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
