   I'm not against solar and most other non-combustion sources. I think   
   fission is the best solution in the immediate future for the generation   
   of very large amounts of electricity as long as the waste and radiation   
   issues can be dealt with. And it seems like they've done that pretty well.   
      
   But shit-canning all combustion generation right now will be harmful to   
   the environment if doing so degrades living standards to the point where   
   people are concerned about their next meal is coming from. When that   
   happens concern about the environment disappears.   
      
   China wants to win. They want to become the next global hegemon and they   
   believe it's their destiny. And they are focusing on the long term   
   rather than the next 5, 10 or 20 years.   
      
   Look at what's happened in Germany in particular. They shut down their   
   nuclear plants. They don't allow for fracking to get their own gas, and   
   were relying on Russia until that became inconvenient. And now their   
   manufacturing base is being destroyed. It can't compete with China or   
   the US anymore.   
      
   That will happen in the US as well if we shut down all combustion   
   generation before we can replace it.
