XPost: alt.california, free.nancy.pelosi.sewage.plant, talk.politics.guns       XPost: sac.politics       From: yourdime@outlook.com              Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi and her husband Paul Pelosi agreed to allow       lawyers for the government and those defending his alleged attacker to       inspect their San Francisco home, according to a Wednesday evening court       filing.              The access is part of preparations for the federal trial in the case       against David DePape, who is accused of bludgeoning Paul Pelosi with a       hammer in his home in October 2022.              The Pelosis agreed to the visit voluntarily. DePape will not be allowed to       have unsupervised access to any information about the visit, according to       the filing.              The Pelosis had initially rejected the request to allow access to their       home, according to July court filings.              DePape faces two counts in federal court, for attempted kidnapping of a       federal officer — Pelosi — which carries up to 20 years in prison, three       years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine, among other penalties;       and for assault on an immediate family member of a federal officer — 82-       year-old Paul Pelosi — which carries up to 30 years’ imprisonment, five       years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine, plus additional       penalties.              Prosecutors said DePape, 42, armed with a hammer, broke into the Pelosi       residence in the middle of the night with a plan to hold then-House       Speaker Nancy Pelosi hostage.              After a tense and lengthy encounter at Paul Pelosi’s bedside, DePape       allegedly struck him with a hammer and fractured his skull. The bloody       encounter was captured by a San Francisco police officer’s body camera.              While in custody, DePape spoke candidly about hurting the speaker’s       husband and described the effort it took to break into the Pacific Heights       home, but he has pleaded not guilty to the charges he’s facing.              DePape also faces charges in state court.              Pelosi’s office declined to comment Thursday morning.              Reach Shira Stein: shira.stein@sfchronicle.com; Twitter: @shiramstein              https://www.sfchronicle.com/politics/article/pelosi-home-18289444.php              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
