   KUTV — A former St. George school teacher was issued four   
   consecutive sentences of 15 years to life in prison, which is a   
   minimum of 60 years to life, on Tuesday for molesting a number   
   of former students over the span of his 32-year career.   
      
   Curtis William Payne, of Santa Clara, Utah, appeared in 5th   
   District after pleading no contest to four of six counts   
   aggravated sexual abuse of a child.   
      
   Victims were allowed to issue statements in court at the   
   sentencing. 2News is not revealing their identities since they   
   were sexually abused as juveniles, however, one victim did want   
   her identity revealed.   
      
   Cassandra Nielsen, 30, said she was the first person to report   
   what happened to her to police as a former student of Payne's.   
   She told 2News in an interview from February 2018 that Payne   
   would massage her shoulders or touch her while she sat on his   
   lap.   
      
   Court documents state that Payne sat his then-female student on   
   his lap behind his desk and touched her vagina, initially over   
   and then under her clothes and said it happened three or four   
   separate times.   
      
   She said he also sat next to her during movies shown in the   
   classroom and touched her in a similar fashion. She said this   
   happened several times. Another similar incident happened at a   
   pool party, away from the school, where she sat on Payne's lap   
   and his hand slipped under her panties, court documents said.   
      
   It is unknown how many students Payne touched inappropriately   
   but an unidentified victim said in court:   
      
   It's time to share the truth, the truth of what happened. You   
   are a very sick individual.   
   Another victim said:   
      
   I’ve cried myself to sleep for over a year. I hope the rest of   
   your life you live in fear as I have. Rot in hell you bastard!   
   Payne's adult son apologized to all the victims and their   
   families and added:   
      
   This is a man who knows exactly what he’s done. No one in this   
   family is going to be sad he is gone.   
   The police conducted 32 interviews in its investigation that led   
   to the arrest of Payne in December 2017. The 61-year-old was a   
   former fourth-grade music teacher with the Washington County   
   School District.
