   Is this the same "Franklin Raines" who was Clinton's budget director   
   when we had the largest surpluses in US history?  That Franklin Raines?   
      
   It's seems far more likely that our entire system is still on the verge   
   of collapse and Fannie Mae was one "top" of many icebergs.   
      
   Now we have California, on the brink of bankruptcy - needing loans from   
   the government to keep it afloat. Was it bad accounting that did this?   
      
   We have almost every major bank in the country going under or getting   
   massive aid from the government to keep it afloat. Was that because of   
   bad accounting?   
      
   We have a trillion dollar bailout and yet the collapse that seemed so   
   inevitable a few weeks ago doesn't seem to have been stopped by the   
   bailout (and probably won't be able to stop it). Did all these things   
   happen because of bad accounting at Fannie Mae?  Only if you're a   
   complete idiot.   
      
   There's a lot more going on here...one of which is that the US   
   government took over $4 trillion out of the economy in new debt under   
   Bush. How much more can the government take out of the economy and still
