|    Queer Cyberpunk?    |

e70160bb       From: gmurphy7733@rogers.com              Hi all,       It's common knowledge that cyberpunk, at least in its literary form, emerged       with key 1980s figures: Gibson, Sterling, Shiner, Shirley, Rucker and,       expanding out, Williams and Swanwick (although influential predecessors       include Delany, Brunner, Bethke, Vinge). With the exception of Pat Cadigan,       it was heavily dominated by straight men. Then, in the mid-1990s a       "second-wave" emerged, many of them women: Piercy, Rosenblum, Mixon, and       Scott to name just a few. What I find interesting is that Rosenblum, Mixon,       and Scott, in addition to featuring women protagonists, are also writing       from a "queer" perspective as they engage lesbian politics. Since then,       however, I haven't really noticed queer cyberpunk making any forward       strides. So, I'm wondering: does anyone know of any queer cyberpunk       (gay/lesbian/bixexual) and any of it recent? Is cyberpunk still a bastion       for straight males or has that changed? I know Effinger features a lot of       bisexuality in his When Gravity Fails sequence and Scott recently released       The Jazz, but anything else to your knowledge? What about in the way       cyberpunk has migrated to non-literary lifestyles? In essence: can       cyberpunk (literary and in other venues) be queer and, if so, does anyone       have any specific examples of where this is taking place?              Thanks all.              G.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
