   A cyberpunk novel by Linda Nagata.  The part relevant to this thread is   
   that Phousita gets an implant which lets her make nanomachines which fly   
   away from her hands and do stuff at her command like stop large machinery.   
      
   Also, at the time it was released some reviewers called it a _Diamond Age_   
   ripoff because both Phousita and Nell were born in slums and became   
   powerful with nanotech.  So I guess you could change
