In       fact, and at the time, Kibo was one of my 'models' for the role of       'netgod', though he seems a bit the worse for wear these days...              let me rather quote from my Oxy lecture notes, but isn't it weird that       the word 'triviality' spawns in the very first sentence?       ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~       Occidental Lecture by Schwann, October 1997 Pasadena              The Internet group mind races towards Truth in equal proportion to its       desire for Triviality. I suppose this can be explained by the duality of       man. Usenet has spawned many futuristic virtual Tribes, complete with       Myths and Legends, which occupy this frontier territory. This is clearly       a classic case of 'virtual-urban-folklore-in-the-making' for future       generations of cultural scientist to debate over. Usenet is much more       than 15,000+ newsgroups and a clamour of psychobabble, for behind this       'firewall' of Bulletin Boards lurks knowledge that protects and       ignorance which endangers. Reading Usenet can be difficult because       realities like the UFO cover-up and a big-bang-common-human-experience       can sometimes make it difficult to maintain a properly balanced       perspective, but hey, if we break it all down we'll see that, besides       being a place to post diatribes on Atlantean Egyptology, Paleofeminist       Manifestos, Vegetarian Theology, and so forth, Usenet is also a forum       for meaningful discussion between totally different types of people.       In order to understand the mythical dynamics of social interaction on       Usenet perhaps we could classify the 'emotive' data flow, which exists       on Usenet in a similar way to how Jung's 'collective unconscious' theory       views the 'human experience'. Jung, among others, suggests that there       are mythic forms, or "archetypes" implicit in human behavioural       patterns. Let me assure you that there's plenty of that kind of       interactivity on alt.society.neutopia, alt.messianic and other       newsgroups on the Internet where the word 'myth' is usually used to       denote stories involving gods, supernatural beings, or aliens, while the       word 'legend' likely refers to chronicles detailing the actions of real       humans - and therefore, possibly true.              Webculture is evolving by providing the Usenet community with essential       cool and by creating Neo-classical Urban Folklore around itself. One of       these uhm, conceits? is called - 'The NetGod'. Now NetGods, like real       people, are a mixed breed. Some may be just icons of insanity, while       others have seriously shaken and stirred the 'cyber-flock', by       committing some notable 'outrage' in real life or cyberspace. In the       usual binary fashion the damage can range from flagrant virtual abuse to       child pornography. Some NetGods can be found in the underworld beneath       Usenet hiding at the bottom of the TCP-IP protocol where the void of the       sacred kill-file is located, while others, like the great 'Kibo',       (alt.religion.kibology), may have their own newsgroups. More on him just       now.              A look into this murky world of lurking horror may give you a few       answers to the smoky future of our culture, but first you'll have to       subscribe to newsgroups like 'alt.consciousness.4th-way',       'sci.archaeology', 'soc.religion.gnosis' and 'alt.memetics'. Then, after       reading mystical texts at midnight, and mailing irrelevant questions to       total strangers, you'll receive replies ranging from; being totally       ignored, to perfectly normal conversation, to ultimately getting       mailbombed amidst shrieks of psychotronic rage. Yes, the I-Net is an       alive, yet 'imperfect vision' of digitised humanity and its hectic out       there, but in order to absorb some 'cyber-mysticism' you'll have to do       more than just lurk, and by the time you understand the true meaning of       the word 'kill-file' you'll already have crossed the virtual Styx and       entered the domain of netgods like Church of the Subgenius, Dr. John       Grubor, who wants to control the world from Pittsburgh by legalising       marijuana. Jack Sarfatti, the internets most hyped quantum physicist and       of course, Doctress Neutopia, High Priestess of Neutopia, a gaian       internet religion of Lovolution. neu topia can also mean "new top", a       new ruling order. However "neu" in some languages sounds close to no. so       neutopia could also mean not nowhere Libby Hubbard is a true prophetess       of the I-net. We all know what words like "massagasm" or "lovolution"       mean even if they have no meaning. I've met the Doctress, who is well       known legend of following her heart around in realtime and then posting       the results to alt.society.neutopia. This could include her sexual       antics from the night before, or erotic religious poetry. Her most       infamous post being 'suck mary', something to do with her rejection of       religion as we know it. Libby is considered a force, a being of mystery.       Some consider her a joke, or an attempt be silicon valley to upload a       meta-consciousness onto the net. A rogue AI program run by UTEXAS. There       have even been recent rumors that she is a being from outer space.--       3.8-- However, having met her personally I can assure you she's real -       and very intense. ::The Gaia Messiah:: She is considered to be the       carrier of a powerful meme complex, but is thought by many to be unaware       of many aspects of reality. Libby Hubbard is a prophetess in evolution.       She started with a powerful imperfect vision of both the world and       herself and then made the cybernetic jump. She's visited Bill Clinton at       White House, gone to Turkey to the global womans conference. (She fell       in love and came back months after she was supposed to with a broken       heart).                     [continued in next message]              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
