What bothers me about assertions like this is that it becomes a useless
generalization. Often online, for example, I see a European,
Canuckistanian, or Austrian start running off at the mouth about how
horrible all Americans are, along with some pretty arrogant statements
that imply their own superiority over Americans. When Americans respond
rather predictably to this kind of commentary, then it becomes all about
American nationalism and how evil it is. In short, it seems that what
many see as arrogance is actually a certain defensiveness.

I guess I'll actually take comments about American arrogance seriously
when I stop seeing condescending (and usually inaccurate) remarks about
   Americans from the aforementioned nationalities.

This doesn't mean that Americans are flawless, it just strikes me that
the commentary *about* Americans is pretty one-sided and heavily
informed by what the speaker wants the truth to be.

   > And Beable is not putting his hand up my butt.

He doesn't have to. It's all done electronically. With satellites.
