   Hello.   
      
   I'm just messing about with source's 25k article spool and trying to get   
   this wacky windows newsreader to eat it whole!   
      
   This how far I have got:   
      
   I have cat'd all the numbered articles into one great big text file.   
      
   Now, my wacky newsreader is quite happy to stick all these articles into   
   alt.cp if I insert a line at the beginning of each header that looks   
   something like,   
      
   #! rnews 5435   
      
   where `5435` is the article number.  My linux skills have declined to   
   the point where I can't remember how to do this, but what I'd like to do   
   is take the filename of each article and prepend it onto the header in   
   the form described above.   
      
   Ok, second requirement is that the header contain a "date" line like   
   this:   
      
   Date: 23 Dec 2002 11:21:50 -0800   
      
   So I want to take a line from the header like this:   
      
   From: (mpa)  12 Dec 1995 00:38:29 -0500   
      
   And pull off everything after the email address and turn it into the   
   date line described above and finally re-insert that into the header,   
   probably after the from line.   
      
   Then I can cat it all back together, set it crunching away, go make a   
   cup of tea and come back with 25+ unread messages in alt.cp and pretend   
   that its the most popularist group ever!!!!   
      
   Any thoughts on how do any of this?   
      
   I swear bash has grown to hate me.
