I'm not overly evangelical about Emacs, so imho, if you have       already perfected a (n)vi(m) workflow, there's probably no big reason to       switch. On the flip side, if you feel like something's missing from your       workflow, Emacs can help you out. The entire editable is written in       elisp, and almost every function can be tweaked or completely changed       to your liking. That low bar of entry also allows people to easily write       their own extensions, meaning that most stuff you could ever want is out       there. It's also very easy to learn, with manuals and function       docstrings being accessible with C-h $WHATEVER}. Eg:       C-h f erc |
