   The first time the timeless phrase 'the fundamentals are sound' is trotted   
   out we are well and truly fucked. I once had access to newspapers from the   
   1920s awaiting transfer to microfiche. It was interesting to read the   
   pundits' chatter about how everything was going great -- until it wasn't.
