   Lot of maintenance...  The 2 meter ham band has several local repeaters   
   that can tie into backbones for long haul traffic. The problem in this   
   area is that implies the repeater is on a mountain. That implies a power   
   source and accessibility problems, particularly in the winter. There is   
   also a lot of company on a suitable mountain site which can lead to   
   intermod problems so the repeater has to be robust.   
      
   The problem with LoRa, Meshtastic, or even amateur radio is it takes at   
   least two to tango. There seems to be some interest in Meshtastic in one   
   of the cities in the eastern part of this state but that's about 300 miles   
   away and doesn't do me any good.
