   Are you talking about sending emails to an inbox or about sending mails   
   to usenet? for some reason (setq smtpmail-smtp-service 587) refused to   
   work for me and I had to default to port 25.   
   Truth be told I didn't look much into it once I could send emails again,   
   but it's a little finicky.
