   Regarding the post editor, I highly recommend setting a max width of 72   
   columns (no more than 76).   
      
   If it really must be 80, converting the final text to a single string so   
   there are not carriage returns or line feeds could work to prevent   
   malformed posts. The problem there is that the formatting would only be   
   friendly to clients which have exactly an 80-column wrap.   
      
   72 is sure to be friendly for everyone and maybe help people keep their   
   sanity while composing a post.
