He was blessed by having a lot of his       family present (10 people) when it happened. Although he had not opened       his eyes for some time, he opened both his eyes and had a good look at       all of us before he left and suffered no pain. It was a merciful ending.       He was 92. We will all miss him dearly.              He was a boy when he came to South Africa from Russia, back in 1920,       following my Grandad, who was a pioneer and travelled extensively       through the country when there were few cars. I can only imagine that       Grandad must've done some of it by train, and the rest by horse and       cart. Though Grandad was a Rabbi and scribe, Dad was not a religious       man, yet he followed tradition. In this way, I was given good schooling,       not only in what society expects, but in that which can be achieved by       initiative, hard work and perseverence.              Thanks for everything you did for us, Dad.
