   If I'm not mistaken, his father's given last name was Shicklegruber (or   
   something very similar).  He then changed it to Heitler, sometimes spelled   
   Heidler.  This last spelling has caused a lot of discomfort among other   
   Germans with this later spelling.  Regardless, it is German.
