The way ANY family member/friend treats others on sitcoms would be
   unacceptable in all households.

Umm, the show is a silly comedy, not supposed to be real life nor to
   be taken that seriously.

In this show, Derek is thoughtless, cruel, self-centered, rude and abusive.
Now, maybe the writers don't mean for him to be this way, but this is how I
see him. If he were in my family, and treated his sister or step-sister, or
anyone else the way he treats Casey, he would get the back of my hand. Real
siblings, with few exceptions, do not treat each other this way.

Yes, I know it is a fictional television show. But, it has viewers who are
young and impressionable. To even hint that the behavior Derek exhibits in
this show is tolerable is to use terrible judgment. Maybe this kind of
behavior is acceptable in Canada. It is most certainly not acceptable with
   anyone I know.
