   Disney has withdrawn the new live-action remake of Beauty and   
   the Beast from cinemas in Malaysia.   
      
   The upcoming film, which features Disney's first ever gay   
   character, was due to open on Thursday, March 16th, but has been   
   put on hold due to an "internal review."   
      
   Reports suggest Malaysian censorship is unhappy that one of the   
   supporting characters, Gaston's right-hand man LeFou, is gay –   
   but there's no official reason being given for the decision.   
      
   In a statement, Malaysia's Golden Screen Cinemas said that   
   Disney had postponed the release but the chain is offering   
   customers a refund.   
      
   Speaking to Malaysian newspaper The Star, a Disney spokesperson   
   said: "The movie release date has been postponed and we are   
   reviewing its new release date internally."   
      
   It comes after Beauty and the Beast's "exclusively gay moment"   
   prompted Russia to give the family film an adults-only rating.   
      
   In 2013, the Russian government passed a law banning the spread   
   of so-called "gay propaganda" among minors, and ministers   
   recently held a screening to determine whether Beauty and the   
   Beast abides with this ruling.   
      
   The re-imagining of the 1991 classic breaches the country's law   
   against "gay propaganda", and although the film will still hit   
   cinemas on March 16th, it will be released with a 16+ rating.
