I suffer from chronic insomnia. My experience is that
sleep comes more readily from medium alcohol and thick
malt. A pint of a homemade Scotch Ale is more likely
to put me to sleep than is hard liqour. The Scotch Ale
is made with 11 lbs of malt extract and is about 11%
alcohol. Sometimes I fall asleep in my Lazy-Boy before
   finishing it.

I discussed this with my Internist and a Sleep doctor.
They both agreed that a pint of beer a day was healthy.
However, they, as any other knowledgeable person would,
said that moderation is cool, inebriation is not cool.
