   I think it's useful to understand what your objective is. Dreaming for the   
   purpose of getting lucid is a bit like climbing a mountain because it's   
   there. A valid reason, but not a terribly useful one. If your objective is   
   self-knowledge, then saying "This must be a dream" and then allowing the   
   dream to do what it likes can be very useful.

   And dreams do have rules, they're just not the same rules as the rules of   
   the waking world. Just as (almost) everybody can swim in the physical   
   world, but not everybody knows how, achieving a particular effect in dream
