A very common problem for people who haven't gone lucid yet is to try too
hard. This tendency can also be observed in people (like me) who get
prescribed antidepressants at some point in their lives.

You are not taking too long. It took me several years of trying various
things, giving up and starting again before I had lucid dreams, and while I
can have them pretty consistently if I use a wake-induced technique, it's
not something that I do particularly often.
