Good point - I agree, and feel like I should have mentioned this myself.
And trauma has been a strong feature of my experiences.

After I had some very emotionally powerful experiences using techniques
including wake-induced lucid dreams, I had some dramatic changes to my
bodily condition, which have been improvements most of the time. It seems
that Graf and I agree that something that might not be 'true' can still be
   very 'useful'.

(And for people other than Carol who are reading this and aren't familiar
with my stance: My good results were accompanied by bad results. These
things are not toys. Use at your own risk. A positive attitude is helpful,
but not a guarantee of safety.)

Ancient systems of medicine (those which were not subject to Descartes) tend
to have a much better understanding of these things than those subject to
the cartesian divide. Western medicine is making spectacular advances, but
ignoring the prior art leads to some rather impressive blind spots.
