I don't believe so. The dream world is virtual (though no less real!) and
the waking world is actual. The only link between the two worlds is that
your waking world has the ability to influence your dreams and you can
remember and analyse your dreams during your waking life.

If you are getting married next week, you may dream of getting married. This
does not mean the dream was a premonition. The dream just used your
subconcious thought processes as a basis for it's theme.

Now - because your subconcious mind picks up MANY things that you are not
conciously aware of, these things may manifest themselves in your dreams and
it could seem like a 'premonition'.

A true example from my life is this:

During the day, I recorded a programme from a TV channel I regularly watch.

That night, I had a dream that the little logo they show in the corner of
channels had been updated to a newer more modern logo on this same channel.

The next day I turned on that channel and BAM! there was that new logo! A
premonition? I thought it was an odd coincidence at first, but when I
watched the recorded programme a few days later that programme had the new
logo too. My subconcious must have picked up on it - but I, conciously
   aware, did not!

Also, your dream may be able to predict the outcome of two things in your
life merging together that you (for example) could be emotionally denying
feelings for conciously, and it may actually happen in real life. So your
dream isn't 'reading the future' but it can be quite a calculator and make
   some very interesting predictions....

It's the same with fortune tellers I think. They must be very good at
reading people's emotions and applying these to probability factors.
