I think it's either very, very difficult or very, very easy.
In lucid dream, you are already in a state similar to hypnosis.
On the other hand, the mental state is still quite different. So,
the answer depends actually on your expectations and what you
   mean by self-hypnosis.

Surely. You just have to be either very experienced or naturally
competent. It could be a lot easier if someone was assisting you
and if you knew some tricks about your consciousness.

I my experience, every state is powerful when you get in touch
with your subconscious. So get to know it.

In self-hypnosis state, the images are _usually_ less vivid, less
concrete and much more unstable. But there are also dreams where
   images are like that.

   What did you try?

Start easy, do not rush into things. Do not use force, let things
happen as they happen, do it gently. This way your efforts won't
be blocked by natural defence mechanisms (which, by the way, are
something you do not want to mess with).
