Ah, you're making a mistake here. A common mistake, an understandable
   mistake, but a mistake nonetheless.

I'll illustrate your mistake using an example from recent history:

Back in 2002-2003, USA was asking for allies to invade Iraq.

Great Britain said: "Yes, of course! You can count on me!"

But France said: "No fucking way! That's stupid and evil! Not only will I
not join you, I'll do everything in my power to stop you, and save you from
   yourself!"

USA threw a tantrum at France (remember "freedom fries"?) and thought Great
Britain to be a good, reliable ally, while France was considered a traitorous
   asshole nation.

Several years later, it became obvious that *France* was the kind of friend
America should have listened to, and appreciated more.

While Great Britain was just an enabler that helped America to act in stupid,
   reckless, evil and self-destructive ways.

Moral of the story: friends that tell you what you *need* to hear are
*far more* valuable than friends that tell you what you *want* to hear.

And that's why I recommend you to listen and pay heed to guys like Tom and
Erwin, even if they understandably make you feel angry.
