This concept is familiar to me as what's known as a "blotter," and *typically*
contains a large daily calendar of the month (with daily squares large enough
that appointments and anything else may be jotted down within them.) I find
   it interesting that
there is a blotter that seems perfectly fit for the top of the desk. Also
note, that roll-top desks are (what I consider to be) of the "Cadillac"
variety of desks. They typically lock shut, and due to the craftsmanship
necessary to make a roll-top out
   of *wood*, "they ain't cheap!!"

There's an area of the brain that relates to reading / organizing meaning out
of words, "Verneky" (Wernicke's Area!) and when one is dreaming, that area of
one's brain is "asleep" (not consciously functioning) which is why trying to
   read is often SO
difficult. It also tends to separate "dream" from actual "vision" or "astral
body projection" or "lucid dreaming" where one sometimes CAN easily recall
something written, be it alphabetical OR numerical. To me (as a totally
   unrelated, 3rd party
objective viewer) what's more interesting is that the dreamer was inhabiting a
scene of sophistication / elegance / intelligence / success, although the
roll-top aspect *did* tend to give it something of a past-life experience type
   setting.

of some structure(like a crawl space). We are both trying to find our way
out. I notice there are flat rocks piles up on top of each other clear up to
   the flooring above us.

Lots of possibilities here, starting with kids just playing underneath the
house, to entrapped females trying to escape a life of sex-slavery (assuming
the dream is *also* female!) however the rocks stacked on top of each other
   from ground to bottom of
the floor beams is a *typical* building technique specifically designed to
create "crawlspace" underneath the house (typically for plumbing but also for
modern wiring) which is used in some areas to also alleviate light groundwater
   flow as well. The
differences come mainly from the old west (where there is practically zero
border around the house) versus modern homes (where the brick wall goes right
down to the foundation) or mobile home, which sometimes uses aluminum sheets
   as a "drape" or "curtain"
to give the crawlspace better protection against animals trying to nest up
inside, under the house. My question is more to the point of, could the
dreamer see daylight out under the edge of the floor, or was it sealed
   entirely? (In which case, a
specific method for gaining access to under the house is required.) Also,
"under the house" *could* be symbolic for the "subconscious mind."

   > Scene jumps and now I start looking around only to discover these flat
rocks are surroundings us on all sides and there is only about 2 feet in front
of us that is still open. I wonder if we should bang on the flooring above
us, so someone can get us
out. I starting to panic which wakes me up.

The scene jump could indicate several things, such as a jump in time versus a
jump in *meaning*. The 2 feet still open reminds me of the birth canal, as
seen from the perspective of the child about to transition from a past life
   into a current one.

   > Find myself outside with another female. She has medium curly brown
hair that has some gray mixed in. She is taking something that looks like
square ridged wooden roofing shingles, putting them in a wheel barrel. I tell
her we need to leave now
or we will be late for our appointment. She takes the wheel barrel of
shingles around to the back of the house and comes back. I wake up just then.

I totally get the sense here that the dreamer is actually the hi
her-consciousness / spirit / mind of the woman in the dream. I further get
the impression that the dreamer was urging the woman to get in gear in order
to reach a goal of some kind. The
roof shingles are a more curious aspect: did they blow off due to a storm?
Are they representative of "ideas" that shield one from too much "higher
thought" (such as the sun or other elements, or even simply ideas?)
