   Fannie and Freddie got hit by the derivatives meltdown and subsequent   
   housing bust, but didn't cause it the way right wingers like to pretend.   
   Mortgages they wrote amounted to 3% of the cash loss, and nearly all of   
   it came as a result of the securities meltdown, rather than precipitating   
   it.
