From: e-mail.me@from.BRmovie.com              Standing in the dark, rainy shadows of a city alleyway, I spied the       Replicant Sentinel covertly transmitting a message to renegade friends       in alt.fan.blade-runner. Tracking...              >In retrospect though the plot twist makes perfect sense (pun intended).              An interesting esoteric thought though - when viewed in "retrospect"       (or for the second time), is it then a "plot twist"? If a twist comes       from following the film with a certain expectation of where it is       leading and then you realise it is actually something completely       different, is it still a twist when you follow the "real" plot when       reviewing or re-viewing the film? Is it somewhat Schrodinger - as in       once you open the box and see the cat is dead (multiple level to that)       then it doesn't matter if you shut the box again and reopen it - you       know the cat is going to be dead. With movies with the (at least       intended) big twist, one watches the second time looking for how the       plot leads to what you now know is the conclusion - i.e. it no longer       twists away from what you expect.              >Geez, at least give the movie *some* credit for being clever!              I won't. It is a nice idea certainly, but while I didn't have the       eminent prescience of the Sponge to know the end before I saw the       beginning, I do share the opinion that it is not greatly executed. As       I said before, it irritated me. Unbreakable was an interesting idea,       but it too started to irritate me. I tried wanting to watch The       Village, but could never care enough. I did watch Lady in the Water       because wife wanted to, but it really irritated me. As for Signs -       well, I would like to burn every copy of it on the planet, but       couldn't do that as it would deprive other people of deciding for       themselves how much they hate it. I have seen none of these films a       second time. For me, Shyamalan is now in the same category as Julia       Roberts - if I'm considering if I want to see a movie, if they are       involved, that is automatically negative points and there need to be a       lot of positives to make up for them. Just my personal preferences -       if you like their work that's great.              Netrunner       --       Or as Schrodinger's wife once said, "What did you do to the cat? It       looks half dead."              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
