   Hi,

I know this thread is old by now, but I can't help throwing in some cents.

And yeah, there will be SPOILERS here..

   > Maybe my hatred of the film is blinding me somewhat here, and as you point
   > out, having guessed what the twist may be, my mind wasn't entirely clean...
   > but... I still think it's blindingly obvious. Bruce doesn't touch
   > anything... he doesn't talk to anyone except the kid... and you even see him
   > get shot in the opening scene. How much more obvious can it be? Surely
   > somebody here agrees with me on this?

All these things you point out as obvious, I considered to be brillian
stylistic touches. All the way up till the moment the beans are finally
   spilled.

I think maybe the clue to this all is in what you said earlier:

   > but I guessed it from the trailer

   WATCHING TRAILERS SHOULD BE FORBIDDEN.

A film like this has to be watched pure and unbiased, there shouldn't
even be a notion of a plot twist coming. Then there is nothing to guess,
and then and only then can you follow this story twice, once without
"the knowledge" and once with. Frankly, I only care for opinions on
this movie from people who watched it like that.

You are like a person watching a magic show, while knowing the tricks.
Duh, there is no fun in that, and I'm afraid you will never understand
the fun that people have who do fail to see the trick. Or did at least
   the first time....

The buildup is part of a trick. That's why a trailer can be so
devestating. In the hands of a truly good magician (or movie
maker) you can be properly prepared to think the wrong angle and
be fooled, while watching a trailer can certainly make you slip
   a lot more easily.

The Sixth Sense's whole alienating point of view (at least,
that's what you think is happening, until you realize it's not
they never show people talking, it's more that they actually never
do talk) can only be experienced properly if you're narated into
it subtly and properly. And without prior expectations....

If you've heard the "I see dead people" line before you see the
movie, you will get the clue much more easily. Because part of
the trick is to make you think to yourself: "I bet he can see
dead people, I'm so clever!", while that wasn't really the real
shocker. It was just a cheap shot to make you stop looking for
more. Like a magician might make you think there's a rope
somewhere, until in the final act, he proves there (probably)
wasn't a rope at all, where you thought it would be...

   Ban trailers.....

   Best regards,
   Dennis
